ANTIQUE BLACK & BROWN BANDED AFRICA TRADE BEADS

There is great depth of color and patina in these old trade beads!
This is a string of old ethnic glass beads that was purchased many years ago (1970s) from a dealer who sold antique trade beads. My understanding at the time was that these are antique African trade beads.
Notice the color striations with black, grey, brown, white and even some dark rusty red streaks – very unique!

Measurements:
24 inch raffia cord of 106 beads
(I used a ruler with cm markings & chose one bead at random to measure)
About 1 cm long x 12 mm inside width
You can see in the photos that the beads are somewhat graduated in size, with the smaller beads near the tie end of the raffia cord.
As with most antique handmade trade beads, there is some surface wear and pitting that, in my opinion, create a very attractive patina and earthy appeal.
