Description
Here is a beautiful playing vintage Holton New Proportion Bb cornet. It happens to have the exact serial number 28000 which dates it to 1914. The "0-" marking is for the bore size which measures 0.462" at the second slide. The valves are working smooth and there is only a slight air leak in valve one when pressure tested. The slides all pull and are marked for Bb low pitch except for the second slide which is high pitch C. This means that this originally would have come with multiple sets of slides for high and low pitch. I am guessing that the last player installed the C slide to get the tuning right as the intonation is good and this plays in low pitch Bb with the main slide out about 1" and the secondary slide out about 1/4".Some dings along the lead pipe and bell but overall still looking good. I found just one small wear spot on the plating under the lead pipe from use. The worst damage is a dent and crack on the top tube of the main tuning slide as shown in the last picture. I put a tiny bit of epoxy in the crack to seal it but it's difficult to push the slide all the way in with the dent. The valves look like unplated copper.
Comes with a case and worn out Holton mouthpiece marked Elkhorn, so made later but really plays well with this cornet.
0.462" bore, 4.75" bell, 15.5" long
