Having stopped playing trumpet for health reasons, I am selling my 1937 Conn Victor Special Cornet. This cornet is polished brass and nickel. The next owner will have the option of maintaining the polished brass, letting it develop a patina, or having it polished and re-lacquered. Victor Special is marked on the receiver. Special means that the horn has a nickel lead pipe, top and bottom caps and nickel trim throughout. Also, the engraving extends all the way down the bell to the receiver brace. All valves, slides and caps are free and working smoothly, including the "opera glass" tuning slide. The horn is straight with no loose solder joints or patches. Valve serial numbers match the serial number on the horn. Mother of pearl key tops are in good shape. Valves do not show much wear. Valve stem corks are new. All three slides still give a pronounced "pop" when pulled out. There are some small dents, the largest being on the inside bend of the large slide, probably a result of a previous owner forcing a stuck slide. I tried to capture that dent and a small dent in the second slide in picture nine. There is also a fairly deep scratch about an inch long on the underside of the bell in the area of the third valve. The case is not original but is vintage. It shows some wear inside and out but is solid and clean with no odor. Latches spring open and close securely. The handle is good. A vintage Conn 4 short shank mouthpiece in good condition is included. This is the proper mouthpiece for pre-1958 Conn cornets. However, I've played this cornet with modern Bach pieces.
I've priced the horn to sell. When polished, it's a striking looking cornet and an affordable piece for a Conn collector. I can only ship to United States locations, so please do not bid if you are outside the United States. Keep in mind when bidding that shipping is FREE.
