6 Antique African Trade Beads Venetian Lampworked & Trail Decorated
Venetian Millefiori Mosaic and many other other types of Venetian beads were traded into Africa in the late 1800’s through the early 1900’s.
These multi colored beads have a wound glass core of black glass over which blue and white glass has been applied.  It was then decorated with the center band of stripes of golden yellow, rusty red, white and blue.   The beads measure
approximately
11 - 12  mm in length and 9 - 9.5  mm in diameter. The inner hole is about 2 mm across.
The beads are in good condition considering their age and long history of use.  I have provided two photos: one showing the six beads with their “best side” showing and the second photo where all the beads are turned so that you can see small nicks in in three of the beads if you look closely and the one larger chip in the bead on the upper right.  With the one exception perhaps, (upper right bead) the beads look great when they are strung.  Please see the photos.
