ANTIQUE AFRICAN TRADE BEAD Striking Venetian Millefiori 36 mm long
Venetian Millefiori Mosaic and many other other types of Venetian beads were traded into Africa in the late 1800’s through the early 1900’s.
This multi colored bead has a wound glass core of black glass over which millefiori slices have been applied.  The millefiori used has an outside layer of golden yellow, enclosing layers of blue, white, blue, white and a dark blue center.   The bead measures
approximately
36 mm X 12 mm. The inner hole is about 4 mm.
The bead is in very good+ condition considering its age and long history of use.  There no chips or cracks or decoration loss.  There is one very small shallow nick on one end which is hard to see and you can really only tell it is there if you rub your finger around the ends.  The photos show all sides of the beads as well as the black core and the threading hole.
