Antique Venetian Nueva Cadiz Trade Bead Beautiful Color 80 mm long
Many types of Venetian-made beads were traded into Africa from the late1800’s through the early 1900’s.
This large rectangular bead has been traditionally called a “Nueva Cadiz" bead.  That name was associated with the history of this type of bead being traded in the 1700’s into South America.  It is a three-layer drawn glass bead. The bead has a bit of luminescent color due to the translucent blue glass on the outside of the layer of white glass. The inner layer is a dark blue.  The color is awesome and I have done the best I could with the pictures to try to show that.  The bead measures
approximately
80 mm long X 14 mm across each side. The inner hole is about 5mm across.
The bead is in very good condition considering its age and long history of use.  Upon close inspection (which is what the close-up pictures show you), you can see a few tiny pits here and there.  There are a few small nicks at the ends of bead.  The photos show all sides of the beads as well as the ends.
