Authentic African Painted Baule Mask - Côte d'Ivoire - Tribally Used !
Large, old painted wooden mask from the Baule people of
Côte d'Ivoire

Dating from the mid-twentieth century, this mask shows wear and patina, indicating this was tribally used or "danced"  Hand carved from a single piece of wood.  Nice patina of age inside the mask, where the wearer's face rubbed, during ceremonial dancing.  Brightly red painted face, with black and white painted highlights.  Old chips and losses to the rear edge, at both the top and bottom.  A couple of tiny drilled holes in back of mask, probably where the mask was mounted to a stand or mount.
Please examine photos carefully for condition.
Purchased years ago at auction, part of my personal collection that I am selling to downsize. A nice, old, and tribally used example.
