New Multi-Drain Watch Batteries from Energizer
New product aims to simplify replacing silver oxide batteries
Energizer Holdings Inc., St. Louis, MO, introduces a new range of multi-drain silver oxide watch batteries it says will bring significant benefits to the watch and jewelry trade by simplifying a complex business.
Until now, retailers and manufacturers have had to manage an extensive range of more than 40 silver oxide watch battery types because of the need for separate types for high-drain and low-drain watch applications. Low-drain watches are normally analog, while high-drain watches are typically digital and have features such as back lights and alarms, which require more current to operate.
Energizer scientists have worked for years to develop cell chemistry that combines the best characteristics of low- and high-drain systems into one battery. The Energizer Multi-Drain is the result.
The new product is designed to fill any silver oxide needs in the market. In addition, the new cell chemistry improves shelf life of the battery 40%, from five to seven years. The new product will be available beginning in August.
“Our customers have been telling us for some time now to simplify the watch battery range, and we are pleased to be able to respond,” says Steve Prumo, general manager of the company’s global miniature batteries division. “This reduction in our range – while still covering all the needs of the market – will bring many benefits to our customers. Besides reducing inventory levels and having faster stock turns, our customers and consumers also will enjoy an improvement in performance. Having developed the world’s first silver oxide watch battery in the late 1950s, we continue to be at the forefront of innovation in this category.”
The company is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of primary batteries and flashlights and a global leader in the business of providing portable power
