  • Condition: Overall, the condition is very good. We can see 9 beads that have a tiny - - -almost invisible- - -edge chip, but to be on the safe side perhaps 13 beads have some tiny edge wear. The beads clearly are soiled and will look even more beautiful and luminous when properly cleaned. You will note that about 14 beads have some kind of light tone to varying degrees. We suspect this tone is due to the manufacturing process or perhaps from water-based corrosion.

    Description

    Over the next several weeks we will be selling a collection of mostly African antique trade beads, but also some other antique beads and jewelry.  All the beads have been evaluated by an expert for authenticity and estimation of age  and provenance.
    This strand is simply outstanding; our photographs do not do it justice.  The strand is an amazing 22 inches long (about 58 cm) and each bead is different although almost all are luminous cobalt-blue glass.  No two beads are alike in size, color and transparency.
    The average diameter of the beads is about 1 cm (about 10 mm).
    Unfortunately, the listing template dates the beads to 1800-1950 and from Bohemia.  But It seems more likely that the beads were made in Germany and date from the late 1700s - 1800s, but please come to your own conclusions.
