    Description

    Beautiful stylized Large Bird Beak mask of the KRAN tribe from Liberia.
    The Kran ethnic subgroup of the Dan people, and are also known as the We or Guere, living primarily in Liberia. The Kran people are charged with maintaining social control, including judicial functions, as well as officiating at harvest ceremonies and funerals.  They use masks such as these to confer authority on the wearer in the performance of his important community functions.
    Beautiful cut mask, in the form of a bird with a huge beak, made with an eye for detail. Very nice brown patina, grass fibers and metal rings on the cheaks, a red cloth with netting on the head. On the beak some metal plates.
    Overall good condition, traces of use and age related cracks.  Take a good look at the pictures.
