    Description

Old silver starburst decoration hallmarked globe bead from Yemen circa early 20th c.
Ethnic Yemeni silver bead, with visible hallmark stamp from the silversmith. Silversmith work was exclusively a Jewish trade in Yemen since the 1700s. Weight is 8 grams. Measurements is  approximately 22 mm. Beautiful granulation and starburst pattern. Would make a nice addition to a collection or would be a nice addition to your jewelry design. While not exactly sterling silver, this is a high silver content alloy which was intended as use for in dowry and wedding wear. The purity of the silver was dependent on the status of the commission. Often, the beads' purity ranged from 85 percent to 92 percent and were mostly made with melted Maria Theresa thalers and other found fine silver as well as some copper.
Listing is for one bead. You will receive the exact antique hand smithed bead listed so please look carefully at the photos.
