    Description

For your consideration is a CG Conn Wonder cornet with original CG Conn case and Conn Amateur cornet mouthpiece included. This model originally featured two interchangeable leadpipes that allowed for use in the key of Bb and the key of A but unfortunately arrived to us with the Bb lead pipe only. Introduced in 1886 and discontinued in 1905, this particular instrument was made in 1894 according to serial number (SN: 53476). It slightly differs from the New York Wonder which had two leadpipes with the "C attachment." The Wonder shown was the favorite of Herbert L Clarke, among others.
In it's time, it was described by C.G Conn as being "the most wonderful invention of the age, and superior in every respect to any other cornet ever manufactured."
*Information for dating the instrument and it's specifications provided by Conn Loyalist.
Cornet has seen plating wear which has made the valves slightly leaky. This is not unheard of for an instrument of it's age and can be resolved with heavier valve oil use or by re-plating the valves. The shepherds crook has fairly significant denting (see photos) that would need to be removed for air flow to be more comfortable, however it has been play tested in our store and is currently playable. Bell has been flattened and dented in several sections (see photos) and caution would be advised if wishing to repair as some areas are quite angular and would have increased risk of cracking if moved. 1st and 3rd valve slides have dents (see photos) as well as the tuning slide having dents as well. The removable lead pipe also has been bent and is crooked (see photo) and would likely need worked on.
Case is ok for storing the instrument, but is not ideal for transport as the latches are non-functioning. Original C.G Conn logo is faded but can be seen on the red felt section on the under side of the lid. Mouthpiece has been cleaned and sanitized and is fully functional.

An awesome piece of American history, as well as music history and still functional after all these years!
