FULL STRAND OF HUDSON BAY BRICK RED GREEN-HEART TRADE BEADS.
This type of bead was made in Venice, Italy from the 1600s to the 1800s. The exact age of this strand is unknown, but it looks to me like these are vintage. These beads were widely traded both through North America as well as Africa. You will see that they are red on the outside and green on the inside, hence the name
Green Hearts
. They are 1/8" to 1/2" in diameter (3 - 12 mm) and of varying thickness. The whole strand is 30" long with 25" of beads for a total of
115 beads.
As you see in the photos, they are in very good condition with minor wear from age or use. These are
