    Description

African Tribal Neckpiece Leather With long beaded Necklace of Green Vaseline Beads24”Red Skunk (24”) venetian beads and shells hand stitched on leather ( 8” X 5”) with many strings of beads hanging off of the bottom of the leather very old - very rare
ESTATE SALE FIND It was hanging on the wall in their basement when I spotted it. Probably part of a Display at an African Booth at some kind of Ethnic Fair (?)in KC, Missouri.I have tried to find out more about it, with no luck. See label on the back.
I have left it just as I found it, it needs cleaning it is screwed on to the frame (15” X 32”) so I never dared to remove it.
The description was glued on but fell off - It says: “Tribal Necklace made of leather and glass trade beads. The beads around the neck (the translucent green beads) are French trade beads known now as Vaseline beads. The small beadwork is native craftsmanship done with trade beads. The trade Beads Date as far back as the 1600s. More than likely this was a man’s necklace, because men would wear the larger more important neckpieces and other jewelry.”
