    Description

For sale is a unique old horn in a few ways. For one it’s a Harry Jay “Columbia” model trumpet-cornet. For those not in the know these model horns were popular in the Chicago jazz scene during the 1920s. The likes of King Oliver , Louis Armstrong , Muggsy Spanier, and George Mitchell used them just to name a few . This one dates to around 1912.
It’s called a trumpet-cornet because it’s a hybrid horn. A long cornet if you will. And it comes with 2 lead pipe receiver ends. One takes a cornet mouthpiece , and the other takes a trumpet mouthpiece. It’s pretty neat to be able to play cornet with a trumpet mouthpiece . Currently it has the trumpet receiver in.
These may not be rare horns but they are not all that common . You will see a few pop up here in varying shape from time to time. This one is also unique in that it appears someone added a pinky ring to the top of the horn. It also appears the the trumpet lead pipe receiver was possibly made later.
Most importantly , this is a great playing horn and handles well. It has a lot of character.
The case , though original to the era, is not original to the horn. Not sure what the story is there , however it just makes it all the more intriguing. The case is in overall good shape .
