Vintage Hummel Mors Hamburg Metal with Bronze Finish Figurine

Up for bid is an original vintage pre-owned
Hummel Mors Hamburg Metal with Bronze Finish Figurine.
Found at an antique shop that was closing.
This figurine measures about 4 3/8” tall and about 2 1/8” wide.
It has H
ummel Hamburg stamped bottom front and on the back bottom is
stamped “Mors”.
The figurine depicts a man with a top hat carrying 2 pails on a yoke.
The Hummel is a traditional Hamburg greeting, the reply is Mors.
This greeting goes back to the 19th century and a cantankerous water carrier called Johann Wilhelm Bentz, known as Hans Hummel, born 21st January 1787, died 15th March 1854.
Hummel would carry water through the streets and children would run behind him shouting Hummel Hummel, in order to annoy him.
Hummel would shout back Mors Mors an abbreviation of (kiss my axxe).
In excellent condition and used as a display.

Shipping is offered within the continental USA. Preferred shipping carriers include USPS, UPS and FedEx.

Return Policy:
